Who would say that they have never dreamt of living in the French Countryside? To live in an old farmhouse, with all the space that you could wish around you, to live of the land and, above all, the peace and quietness of rural living. We had that dream, and we've made it come true here at Puech de Cabanelles. We feel extremely privileged to be able to share our dream with others.
We heave made an effort to build our gîtes in an ecological way. This means that warm water is provided by solar-energy, we use low energy light bulbs and heating comes from woodstoves in which we burn wood from our own land. The toilets are flushed with rainwater from a 50.000 litre reservoir and the vegetable garden is watered with water from the well.
Old building materials are recycled wherever possible. The farm used to belong to a slaters family, so we are never short of slates. Where possible we use natural stone from the area and our own wood.
When we came to live here, in 2007, our holiday homes existed only in our minds. Since then we've worked hard to transfer our quiet place of natural country charm into a location where you can actually enjoy your holidays in comfort. We created our two gîtes out of the old cow barn and a, rather large, potato shed.
Lo Nosilhon is a spacious holiday home for 2 - 5 people, which is entirely built on the ground floor level. It's a very pleasant gîte for families with up to 3 children, but equally suited for one (or two) couples whishing to spend an early or late holiday outside of high season.
Our studio gîte, La Castanheta, is designed to accommodate 2 people, it's snug and complete. An excellent base for trips in the surrounding area, and a lovely place to come back home to.
Your holidays in France can't pass without The All Important Culinary Experience. This region is well known for the famous Aïl Rose de Lautrec (garlic), the edible chestnut, lamb's meat of the Segala region and canard (duck). Delicious cheeses are found all over France, we are no exeption. This region is home to the Roquefort cheese.
Local wines are abundant. The wines we serve are form the Gaillac, Marcillac, Madiran and Vin de Pays d'Oc regions. Marc is a graduated wine specialist from the Dutch Wine Academy and will organise small scale wine tasting events in our own 'cave' upon request.
